Our Initiatives -Workforce Development
Communities In Schools focuses on seeing students to graduation, and also ensuring a bright future after the days after they turn their tassels. In conjunction with numerous organizations, CIS is able to provide opportunities for students to learn life skills to prepare them for the real world, in addition to engaging them in direct work with local employers. To strengthen students’ interest in careers, CIS provides opportunities for job shadowing and to work with local employers. The Reality Store is where speakers and professionals come to the classroom to talk about jobs.
The Real Game is a financial literacy program for middle school students across the state, offered through a partnership with Career Cruising of Toronto, Canada. It incorporates financial responsibility, knowledge and career building tracks into an electronic game. Since it is web-based, students can “play” in the classroom and online at home with their parents. Currently, CISNC has 51 licenses for middle schools in the BRAC region, and looks to expand to the five Performance Learning Centers and some high schools within the next year.
