Our Initiatives -Training and Assistance

The success and strength of Communities In Schools of North Carolina rests upon its ability to meet local program needs either directly or by brokering in training and technical assistance.  Because each affiliate is its own organization, Communities In Schools of North Carolina responds to requests by communities based upon local needs and requirements.  Training topics can vary from board orientation and nonprofit management courses to the best practices of afterschool programming and youth empowerment.

We also conduct two annual statewide training events each year that offer more than 25 sessions of the most promising practices and skill-building and where local CIS staff and partners receive training for serving at-risk youth.

The 2011 CISNC Annual Training Institute was held in Pinehurst, NC, February 1-3, and themed "The Power of The Story, To Inspire, To Teach, To Transform."  More than 400 members of the "CIS Family" heard from dynamic keynote speakers like Christian Moore, Dr. Shelly Stewart and Lonnie Moore; participated in engaging and informative topical sessions; and grew in understanding of how storytelling plays crucial role in communicating the CIS model to various audiences.  To access conference materials and presentations, visit our Resource Library.  Pictures from the conference can be found on the CISNC Facebook fan page and on Flickr.

In addition to our statewide annual conference, we also host occasional regional-based workshops on topics such as faith-based mentoring and site management.

We also host three meetings for executive directors to meet and exchange best practices. New executive directors are also invited to attend a series of trainings aimed at supporting them in their first few years at their local CIS affiliate.
